Overview

With over a hundred thousand students, Sapienza covers nearly every field — from engineering to medicine, physics and mathematics to archaeology and architecture. It holds a world-recognised academic depth in the basic sciences, engineering, classical philology and archaeology above all.

Its central Rome campus (the Città Universitaria) is a broad site within the city; various faculties are spread across other points of the city besides. It ranks among Italy’s highest in the international tables and leads worldwide in many fields.

The capital of Lazio and of Italy, Rome is a metropolis where history, culture and work opportunity concentrate. The cultural provision for students is very wide; against that, the housing cost runs high. The public transport network is developed, and the city is a central point for international travel too.

Faculties and signature programmes

Sapienza holds many departments under 11 faculties. The fields Turkish students often turn to:

• Engineering (civil, mechanical, computing, aerospace, biomedical),
• Medicine and pharmacy, health sciences,
• Architecture and design,
• Economics, political science and international relations,
• Archaeology, art history and the classical languages (world-strong).

The university’s English-taught master’s programmes open the door to apply without an Italian precondition.

Language of instruction and language conditions

Most programmes run in Italian; a growing number in English. The Italian-taught ones generally want a B2 CILS/CELI or the university’s language exam, the English-taught ones IELTS/TOEFL. Some bachelor’s programmes run an entrance exam (TOLC, say) besides.

Application for Turkish students

The process begins with the programme choice and the Universitaly pre-enrolment. A CIMEA or a Dichiarazione di Valore is needed for the degree recognition. At this stage the apostilled, sworn-Italian-translated form of your diploma and transcript must stand ready.

Tuition fees and scholarships

Fees are tiered by the ISEE value, and low-income students can be substantially exempted. The regional grant agency DiSCo Lazio (Lazio DSU) offers housing, food and cash support; the application wants the sworn translation of your income documents and an ISEE Parificato. Which documents should you have sworn-translated for Sapienza University of Rome?
