YÖK Equivalency Translation for Italian Universities

For graduates of Italian universities who want to use the degree in Turkey — to obtain equivalency — the essential step is the sworn Turkish translation of the Italian diploma and transcript. This page summarises how documents from Italian universities are prepared for the YÖK equivalency (recognition) application in Turkey, the steps they pass through, and the institutions we serve.

What is YÖK equivalency, and who needs it?

Equivalency is YÖK’s official recognition of a foreign higher-education degree’s Turkish counterpart. Anyone completing a bachelor’s (laurea), master’s (laurea magistrale) or doctorate (dottorato) in Italy and wanting to work in Turkey’s public or private sector, continue an academic career or obtain professional rights needs it — and at the application’s foundation sit the sworn Turkish translations of the Italian documents.

The documents the equivalency application takes

The most-requested, most-translated documents:

Document Processing order
The Italian diploma (laurea) Apostille in Italy → sworn Turkish translation → the YÖK application
The transcript (certificato esami) Apostille → sworn Turkish translation
The Diploma Supplement Sworn Turkish translation
Course contents (programma) Sworn Turkish translation (can be required in the recognition)

The Italian apostille and the consular procedures are covered on our consular translation and apostille guide pages.

The process: apostille and sworn Turkish translation

For an Italian degree to be recognised in Turkey the sequence generally runs: the document apostilled in Italy (Italy being party to the Hague Convention), then its sworn Turkish translation, then the YÖK application. The course titles, the credits and the grading rendered correctly are critical to the equivalency assessment running sound.

What we watch in equivalency translation

In the equivalency assessment, the course titles, the ECTS/CFU credits, the course hours and the grading decide. We render them faithful to the Italian higher-education system and to the document, in the academic terminology — keeping the name and date spellings consistent with your passport and identity documents, and following the consular and apostille processes through.

For those applying from Turkey to Italy

We serve the reverse direction too — graduates of Turkish universities heading for study in Italy. The Turkish degree’s Italian translation for the Italian application is covered on our Turkish universities diploma translation page.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Italian degree automatically valid in Turkey?

It is not; using it in Turkey requires the YÖK equivalency/recognition process, at whose foundation sit the apostilled, sworn-Turkish-translated diploma and transcript.

Which documents do I translate for equivalency?

Generally the diploma, transcript and Diploma Supplement; in some cases the course contents too. Confirm the current list with YÖK’s official sources.

Should the apostille be done in Turkey or Italy?

A document issued by Italian authorities takes its apostille in Italy. The sworn Turkish translation follows the apostille.

My university isn’t listed — am I not covered?

You are. Documents from every state and private university in Italy are within scope; the list samples the main institutions only.
