Overview

With around 47,000 students, Politecnico di Milano focuses on just three fields: engineering, architecture and design. That focus joins with strong industry links, laboratory infrastructure and graduate employment. It has several campuses in and around Milan (Como, Lecco, Cremona, Piacenza, Mantova).

The city of Milan and student life

The capital of Lombardy, Milan is Italy’s centre of economy, fashion, design and finance. It is among the cities with the highest work and internship provision; against that, the cost of living, housing above all, runs markedly above the Italian average. The city is very lively for international travel and events.

Faculties and signature programmes

The programme structure is built around three main fields:

• Engineering: computing, mechanical, electrical-electronics, aerospace, biomedical, management, civil, materials,
• Architecture: architecture, urban design, building engineering-architecture,
• Design: product, communication, fashion, interior and digital design.

Most master’s programmes run in English; this opens the door for internationals without Italian to apply directly.

Language of instruction and language conditions

At bachelor’s level the programmes are mainly Italian (some English); at master’s level largely English. English-taught programmes want IELTS/TOEFL, Italian-taught ones a language certificate. The bachelor’s application runs an online entrance exam/assessment.

Application for Turkish students

The process begins with the programme choice and the Universitaly pre-enrolment; the university’s own online application system is used too. A CIMEA report is often used for the degree recognition. For the academic assessment, a sworn Italian (or English) translation of the transcript and diploma supplement is needed.

Tuition fees and scholarships

Fees are tiered by the ISEE; there are exemptions for low-income students. The regional grant agency Lombardy DSU (Diritto allo Studio) provides housing and cash support; the university can have its own merit/need scholarships besides. Which documents should you have sworn-translated for the Polytechnic University of Milan?

• The diploma (bachelor’s/master’s) and, where applicable, the provisional graduation certificate,
• The transcript and the diploma supplement,

• The statement of intent, CV and references (in Italian or English, by the programme’s language).
