Which cities and universities does ER.GO cover?

ER.GO serves the students of Emilia-Romagna’s universities. At the region’s centre sits Europe’s oldest university, the Università di Bologna; the universities of Modena e Reggio Emilia, Parma and Ferrara sit in the region besides. Bologna — strong, international and student-friendly — runs popular with Turkish students; and whichever city you study in, the ER.GO application is assessed against that campus.

What does ER.GO offer?

The support runs on three legs: the cash grant (the borsa di studio), the hall place (the posto alloggio) and the canteen (the mensa). The grant’s size follows the student’s status — living with family in the city (“in sede”), commuting daily (“pendolare”) or settled from outside (“fuori sede”) each draw different amounts; Turkish students arriving from abroad generally count “fuori sede” and enter the highest band. The winners are exempted the university fees besides.

Who qualifies? The income and the merit

The grant reads the ISEE (income) and the merit (credits/marks). The income side wants the ISEE Parificato; the region sets an upper income threshold each year, and the students under it qualify. The merit side is generally enrolment alone for year one, and a set credit count for the years after. Most students arriving from Turkey fall under the threshold — the ER.GO odds run high.

The calendar and the process

The ER.GO grant and hall call (the bando) generally publishes in early summer (around July), with the applications closing within it. The application runs through ER.GO’s online portal, with the ISEE Parificato and the income documents at its heart; and it can be filed before the final enrolment, the enrolment completed after. The results land in autumn, the first payments generally in December — stand ready to carry the first months’ budget yourself.

The application’s heart is the income file. The family’s income and asset documents apostilled and sworn-translated into Italian are the condition of the ISEE Parificato calculated right — a document missing or translated wrong can pull the grant down. ER.GO and MAECI together

The ER.GO grant and the MAECI government scholarship run from different sources — the conditions holding, they can be held together, and the pairing is strong: MAECI carrying the monthly living, ER.GO lightening the hall and canteen weight. But with the MAECI allowance sometimes counted into the ISEE, confirm the combinability with ER.GO and your award’s conditions both.

The cost of living and the housing strategy

Emilia-Romagna sits among Italy’s prosperous regions, its cost of living balanced beside the big metropolises. Bologna runs lively but student-dense, with real competition for the rents; Modena, Parma and Ferrara are the economical alternatives. ER.GO’s hall provision is the most valuable card against Bologna’s rent pressure above all — claim the hall and the canteen beside the cash, and the total cost drops seriously. Choosing the city, weigh the university’s academic strength and that city’s housing together: the same ER.GO grant can buy a more comfortable life in Ferrara than in Bologna.

The pre-application to-do list

To pass the regional DSU application cleanly, finish these before the window opens: fix the target university and city; gather the family’s income and asset documents; have them apostilled at the governorate; have the apostilled documents sworn-translated into Italian; plan the ISEE Parificato with a CAF in Italy; and prepare the rent/residence proof that certifies the “fuori sede” status. The steps all interlock — one delayed pushes the whole chain. Starting by late spring at the latest is the late-summer window reached in comfort.

Following the result, and the appeal

After the application, the result lists and rankings publish on the agency’s portal. Follow them steadily: ranked “idoneo” (eligible), watch the funding allocation; left unfunded, watch the further rounds. A result lower than expected on a document gap, and most agencies grant a correction or appeal (ricorso) window — so keep the copies of everything filed, and all the correspondence. A file built right scores high at the first assessment, and strengthens the appeal should one be needed.

Bologna holds a special place — Italy’s oldest university city, with a strong international scene. The city runs small and walkable; the student numbers keep the social life alive; and the Università di Bologna’s many English-taught master’s open the door to students without Italian. ER.GO’s grant, hall and canteen package balances Bologna’s relatively high rents — and with Milan, Florence and Venice a train ride away, the weekends and the internship openings profit too.
