Income Documents and Sworn Translation for DSU

DSU eligibility rests on the ISEE Parificato calculation — and that calculation rests on your family’s income and asset documents. Gathering them correctly in Turkey, apostilling them and having them sworn-translated into Italian is the most technical, most critical part of the application. This page goes through which documents are needed, where each comes from, and what to watch in the translation.

Which income and asset documents are needed?

The ISEE Parificato wants to see the family’s economic position as a whole — so the documents of every earner in the household are needed, not only yours:

Document Where it comes from Apostille
Payslip / income document Employer / social security / tax office Yes
Tax certificate (self-employed/business) Tax office Yes
Bank balance letter (31 December) The bank Most CAFs require it
Title deed / vehicle registration Land registry / traffic office Yes
Full civil registry extract Registry office / e-Devlet Yes

If the family holds no assets (no property or vehicle), a “none held” letter documenting the fact may be requested. Get the CAF’s full list in advance; one missing document stalls the entire calculation.

Where and how do you obtain them?

Most come through e-Devlet or the issuing institution. For the civil registry and some others, a barcoded e-Devlet printout can suffice — but for the apostille most district governorships want a wet signature and seal. Take the bank balance letter for the exact date the CAF requires (usually 31 December of the previous year), and have the income documents issued for the last calendar year. As you gather them, keep everything from the same period and mutually consistent.

The apostille, and the order

Every official document’s original needs the apostille endorsement to be valid in Italy. The rule is plain: apostille the original first, then translate. The district governorship or governorship covers civil registry and criminal-record documents; the courthouse covers court judgments — the full matching is in our apostille guide. Break the order and the apostille lands on the translation; the CAF or the regional agency can refuse the document.

What matters in the sworn translation?

Income documents are terminologically delicate: the line items on a payslip, the account types in a bank letter, the property attributes on a deed must all be translated accurately and consistently. The same concept rendered differently across documents raises questions at the CAF and slows the file. The translation must be notarised sworn work, prepared in the form the consulates accept. A multi-document, terminology-heavy set like this is exactly where an experienced office buys you speed and accuracy at once.

Why batch the translation?

Because the DSU income file holds so many documents, translating them as a batch rather than one by one brings the per-page cost down. The same translations then serve the ISEE Parificato, university enrolment and — where needed — the visa file: done right once, they beat paying again and again. Upload your document set for an instant batch price and turnaround; outside Ankara, courier works at the same speed.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving one family member’s income document out
  • Taking the bank balance for the wrong date
  • Going to translation before the apostille
  • Letting the terminology drift between documents
  • Leaving the documents late and missing the application window

Why keeping the set together matters

With a file this fragmented, managing the documents as one whole is half the battle. Keep each document’s original, apostille and translation together in a named folder — and remember you’ll need multiple copies of the same document: one set for the CAF, one for the regional agency, one for the university if needed. Rather than a single copy, hold enough certified copies and digital scans. A good archive spares you paying for the same procedure twice and chasing paper at the last minute — and for date-bound documents like the bank letter, getting the correctly dated copy first time matters most of all.

Family composition and the civil registry extract

Because the ISEE assesses the family as a whole, the full civil registry extract showing the family’s composition is a critical document: it shows who is in the household and how they relate, and the CAF derives the earners and dependants from it. It must be current, complete and apostilled — an incomplete or stale extract miscounts the household and distorts the ISEE value. In its translation, the names, dates and family relationships must carry across exactly; this document frames the entire income file.

Why work with an experienced office?

Translating income documents is not ordinary text work: it demands legal-financial terminology and cross-document consistency both. “Gross/net” on a payslip, “share/attribute” on a deed, “time/demand deposit” in a bank letter — rendered accurately and consistently, they let the CAF process the file without friction. An experienced office knows the layout and terminology Italian institutions expect, which speeds the process and cuts the risk of a returned file. Upload your documents to see the batch price and learn in advance which documents genuinely need translating — avoiding the unnecessary ones is a saving in itself.

Document validity periods

Some income documents belong to a specific period and are expected to be current. The bank balance letter usually shows 31 December of the previous year; income documents must cover the last calendar year; and documents like the civil registry extract and criminal record may need to be recent (issued within the last few months, say). Taking documents far too early and letting them sit causes problems, and so does taking them too late — timing matters. Learn in advance which date each document must carry for your CAF and regional agency, and obtain them inside that window.

One file, many uses

A well-prepared income file serves far beyond the DSU application. The same apostilled, translated documents work for the ISEE Parificato, for the regional agency’s application, and — where needed — as the proof of funds in the visa file. Preparing them correctly and completely once beats scrambling anew each time. Upload your documents to draw up a batch translation plan and settle in advance how many copies of which document you’ll need.

Frequently asked questions

Several people in my family earn — is everyone’s document required?

Yes; the ISEE assesses the family as a whole. Every earner’s document must be complete, or the calculation comes out wrong.

I hold no assets — is a document still needed?

Usually a “none held” letter (confirming no property/vehicle registration) is requested. Learn the form your CAF wants in advance.

Is a translation done in Turkey sufficient?

Yes; Italian institutions accept notarised sworn translations produced in Turkey. Having them done in Turkey is faster and cheaper.

Keeping it current

DSU grants are regional; the amounts, income thresholds (ISEE) and calendars vary with each region’s student-welfare agency and academic year. Verify with your own region’s official agency before applying: ANDISU (directory of regional agencies) »
