The DSU Toscana Grant (Florence, Pisa, Siena)
The Azienda Regionale DSU Toscana is Tuscany’s student-welfare agency, covering Florence, Pisa and Siena. Where art, history and science meet, the region draws Turkish students with its storied universities and its quality of life alike. This page explains the DSU Toscana grant’s coverage, the eligibility and the application.

Which cities does DSU Toscana cover?
The agency serves the region’s three main university cities: Florence (the Università di Firenze), Pisa (the Università di Pisa and the world-famous research schools) and Siena (the Università di Siena and the Università per Stranieri di Siena). Pisa hosts the fully funded research schools — the Scuola Normale Superiore and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna — besides. With its mid-sized, student-scaled cities, Tuscany runs high on the quality of life.
What does DSU Toscana offer?
The support covers the classic DSU trio: the cash grant, the hall place and the canteen, sized by the status (in sede / pendolare / fuori sede) and the ISEE — students from abroad generally in the highest band. Florence runs touristic and comparatively dear; Pisa and Siena are the economical options where the grant stretches further. The winners take the university fee exemption besides.
Eligibility: the income and the merit
The grant reads the ISEE (income) and the academic progress: the income against the ISEE Parificato and the region’s annual threshold, the merit as enrolment for year one and the credit condition after. The students under the threshold qualify, whichever the university.
The application calendar
The grant and hall call generally publishes across the summer, closing before the teaching starts; the application runs through the agency’s online portal with the ISEE Parificato and the income documents, and can be filed before the final enrolment. The results land in autumn, the first payments towards the year’s end — the documents ready by early summer are the window never missed.
Care as a Turkish student
The critical part is the income file: the family’s income and asset documents apostilled and sworn-translated into Italian are the ISEE Parificato calculated right. Check the list against our income documents page and upload the documents for the batch price in advance — the file finished before Tuscany is the safest course.
Tuscany’s advantage for the student
Beside the academic wealth, Tuscany leads on the quality of life. Pisa’s research schools rank among the world’s most competitive fully funded doctoral programmes; Siena’s Università per Stranieri is ideal for learning the language. The DSU Toscana grant is the economical access to all of it — weighing the region, read the DSU grant and the universities’ own awards together.
The cost of living and the housing strategy
The cost moves visibly city to city. Florence runs touristic and dear, the rents and the daily costs high; Pisa and Siena, smaller and student-weighted, run economical — the grant stretching further there. The agency’s halls and canteens pull the costs down in all three cities, with the hall priority in Florence worth most; Pisa runs academically dense but calm in the living, and Siena is ideal for the language and a quiet study life. Choose the city with the academic goal and the budget weighed together.
The pre-application to-do list
To pass the regional DSU application cleanly, finish these before the window opens: fix the target university and city; gather the family’s income and asset documents; have them apostilled at the governorate; have the apostilled documents sworn-translated into Italian; plan the ISEE Parificato with a CAF in Italy; and prepare the rent/residence proof that certifies the “fuori sede” status. The steps all interlock — one delayed pushes the whole chain. Starting by late spring at the latest is the late-summer window reached in comfort.
Following the result, and the appeal
After the application, the result lists and rankings publish on the agency’s portal. Follow them steadily: ranked “idoneo” (eligible), watch the funding allocation; left unfunded, watch the further rounds. A result lower than expected on a document gap, and most agencies grant a correction or appeal (ricorso) window — so keep the copies of everything filed, and all the correspondence. A file built right scores high at the first assessment, and strengthens the appeal should one be needed.
Pisa: the research schools and the standard university, kept apart
Pisa runs two roads, and they mustn’t be confused. On the standard Università di Pisa programmes, the DSU Toscana grant is the serious income-based support; admitted instead to the select research schools — the Scuola Normale Superiore, the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna — the schools run fee-free and fully funded already, and a separate DSU grant is generally not needed. Aiming at Pisa, then, first settle which kind of institution you’re applying to — the funding strategy follows from it. In Siena and Florence the standard university road holds, with DSU Toscana the strong support for the under-threshold student there too.
Which cities and universities in Tuscany?
The agency covers the region’s three main university cities: Florence with its large, many-sided university; Pisa with its storied university and its select research schools (the Normale, Sant’Anna); Siena with its university and the Stranieri that teaches Italian to foreigners. All three run more economical and more student-scaled than Milan or Rome — the funded life easier for it; and enrolled at a Tuscan university, whichever the city, the DSU application goes to the region’s one agency.
