The DSU Application Calendar and Process

When does the DSU application open?

In most regions the window runs from summer into autumn — broadly July to September — though exact dates vary by region and year. The important point: the application can generally be made independently of final university enrolment, even before it. Your admission may not yet be settled, and the DSU application may still need filing on time. So learn your target region’s calendar in advance and be ready when the window opens. Missing the calendar is DSU’s most frequent, most expensive mistake.

The basic steps

A DSU application generally runs: register on the regional agency’s online portal; enter your personal and academic details; declare your family’s finances via the ISEE — for international students, the ISEE Parificato; and upload the required documents. The agency then assesses on income and academic criteria and publishes the results (the eligibility list). The detail varies by region but the logic is constant: an income-based assessment, and the right documents presented on time. Complete each step carefully against the agency’s own guidance.

The ISEE Parificato and its timing

For international students the process’s most critical piece is the ISEE Parificato — the document translating the family’s income and assets into the Italian system. It is drawn up through a CAF and takes time to prepare, on top of the apostilles and sworn translations of the Turkish income documents. Documents and translation

The application takes income documents, family records and academic documents — and most of the Turkish ones must pass through apostille and sworn translation. The list shifts a little by region, but the core income and family documents are asked for everywhere. Gathering them early and having the sworn translations prepared in advance lets you move without losing a day when the window opens. Complete, correct documents are the precondition of the application counting as valid.

Results, and what follows

After assessment, the agency publishes the rankings (graduatoria). Two statuses matter: those awarded the grant, and the “idoneo non beneficiario” candidates found eligible but left unfunded that round. Calendar differences between regions

There is no single national DSU calendar; each agency sets its own deadlines. One region closes in August while another stays open to the end of September. Rather than memorising a “general DSU calendar”, work from your own region’s call — and if several regions (universities) are in play, note each calendar separately. The differences can even weigh on which university you choose: one region’s calendar may simply fit your preparation time better. The first year, and the years after

The DSU grant requires a fresh application every academic year; winning once is not automatic renewal. The first-year application rests chiefly on income (ISEE); later years add the academic-progress condition — accumulating a set number of credits (CFU). Keeping the grant means staying under the income threshold and progressing in your courses both. Take the academic targets seriously from year one, and remember each year to re-track the calendar and refresh your documents.

Appeals and corrections after the results

When the rankings (graduatoria) publish, the result may differ from what you expected. Most regions allow an appeal (ricorso) or document correction within a set period — if your income document was misjudged or a paper counted as missing, you can request the correction inside that window. Read the results carefully and never miss the appeal deadlines: a timely appeal can win back a grant you were owed. Staying engaged after the results is how rights get protected.

The single most decisive success factor in a DSU application is early preparation. The ISEE Parificato, the apostilles and the sworn translations can take weeks, and all of it must finish before the window opens. Start early and, when the application period arrives, every document is ready and only the portal remains. Those who leave it late mostly fail to get the documents through in time and lose the opportunity.
