What is a payslip?

The payslip shows the employee’s monthly gross/net wage, the deductions and the employer details. Generally the last 3–6 months’ payslips are presented together with a duty/income letter taken from the employer.

What is it needed for in an Italian application?

It is asked for to document the family’s regular income on a student visa and the wage income in the DSU/ISEE Parificato calculation. Together with the income letter and the bank movement, the payslip is among the strongest proofs of economic means.

Where and how do you get the document?

Obtain the payslips from your employer’s human resources/accounting unit, wet-signed/stamped; have the income letter issued on the employer’s letterhead too. For private documents, a notary certification and then a Governorate/District Governorate step can be needed for the apostille.

The apostille and sworn-translation process

Gather the recent months’ payslips, complete the notary certification and apostille where needed, then have the sworn Italian translation made. The amounts’ currency and periods must show plainly in the translation.

What to watch in the sworn translation

The payslip periods must be uninterrupted and current; the gross-net distinction and the employer details must carry over completely. So the annual income reflects correctly into the DSU calculation, an (annual) income tax return can be wanted too.
